Courts in Western Australia have been receiving verbatim transcripts produced by private contractors since the early 1960s. However, there is increasingly a need for courts to shift away from traditional analogue recording methods and adopt a digital solution. Western Australian courts are at the forefront of using digital recording technology.
Digital recording technology is available at the court locations below and will eventually be used in all WA courts.
The future of digital recording lies in the ability for digital recording systems to archive court recorded audio files to a central repository. Audio records can then be accessed by judicial officers, approved Department staff and transcription contractors as needed. Demand for ‘printed’ transcripts should also decrease due to greater access to court recordings.
